“Islamic Banking Management” concentration introduced

Introduced Fall 2024

“Islamic Banking Management” concentration

Professor Farooqi is creating a new business administration concentration titled “Islamic Banking Management”

As per a Fitch Ratings study, a quarter of Qatar’s banking assets are with Islamic banks, and it represents the fifth largest Islamic banking market in the world (on assets). While in other countries, a bank can run an Islamic as well as a conventional (non-Islamic) banking window, Qatar requires its banks to be either exclusively Islamic or exclusively conventional. Our existing finance curriculum is designed for a conventional banking market, which means that our students are at a disadvantage when they seek employment at these Islamic banks.

Professor Fuad Farooqi

This course will aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply their financial training to Islamic financial banking environments. It is expected to commence in the Fall 2024 semester.
