Professor Indaco publishes paper on Climate Change and Population Dynamics

Professor Indaco and Professor Francesc Ortega from Queens College published an article titled “Adapting to Climate Risk? Local Population Dynamics in the United States” examines how climate risk influences population growth patterns across the United States. Using a composite climate-risk index, the authors identify a trend of population growth in high-risk areas over recent decades. While coastal and urbanized regions with robust economies continue to attract residents, high-risk rural areas show signs of population retreat. Notably, in areas with risks like coastal flooding, micro-retreats occur as residents relocate to safer zones within counties. The study highlights regional differences in migration trends and underscores the need for local-level adaptation strategies in high-risk zones.
